Rabbi Brent Gutmann

Rabbi Brent P. Gutmann began serving as Senior Rabbi of Temple Beth Zion in 2022. He cares deeply about building an active, welcoming synagogue that is meaningfully connected to the wider community through relevant services, renewed family engagement, and partnerships that bring Jewish life into conversation with the world around us.
Under his leadership, Temple Beth Zion has seen major growth in its religious school and family programming, holiday gatherings, temple retreats, and initiatives including the Stained Glass Concert Series, the Freedom Seder, and the Blum Jewish Education Project.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Rabbi Gutmann is a graduate of Indiana University and was ordained by Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati in 2013. Before coming to Buffalo, he served congregations in Michigan, Cincinnati, and New Zealand. He currently serves on the Rabbinic Advisory Council of the Religious Action Center of New York State and is a fellow of the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue Amplify Israel Rabbinic Fellowship and CLAL’s Rabbis Without Borders Fellowship.
Above all, he is known for his warmth, humor, and ability to make people feel at home in Jewish life.
