Museum Instructor
for the Blum Jewish Education Project at Temple Beth Zion
Do you love architecture, local Buffalo history and sharing different cultures with students? This is the opportunity to engage with diverse groups of students to deliver a hands-on, integrated program covering material from the Cofeld Museum and Temple Beth Zion that combines history, architecture and the fundamentals of Judaism (to a mainly non-Jewish audience) for school aged students as part of school field-trips to 805 Delaware.
Responsibilities:

Deliver and engage with students in age-appropriate and accessible manner the program content.

Set-up and clean-up all lesson materials.

Greet classes as they arrive for field trip and reach-out one week prior to visit to classroom teacher to prepare for arrival.

Attend mandatory training and staff development workshops.

Aid curriculum development as needed to enhance the program based on participant feedback.

Professionally represent the program and dress appropriately.

Submit timesheets in a timely manner. Notify the program director of any scheduling changes as soon as conflicts arise.

Communicate via email regarding general correspondence and monthly schedules.
Knowledge and skills:
-
Desire to work with school-aged children from 6th-12th grade.

Excellent communication and facilitation skills.

Eager to learn the contents of the project and provide hands-on learning experiences.

Flexible weekday availability is a must from the hours of 9:30 AM- 1 PM.

Mandatory bachelor’s degree

Preferred experience in the classroom.

Past experience as a museum educator or docent preferred.
The Blum Jewish Education Project provides educational experiences for school-aged children to explore three pillars: Judaism, the architecture of Temple Beth Zion, and the history of the Jews of Buffalo. Using the extensive resources of the Cofeld Museum and the magnificent architecture of Temple Beth Zion, students will visit 805 Delaware to learn about the three pillars in an integrated and hands-on program.
Reports to: Director of the Blum Jewish Education Project
Status: Part Time, Hourly, Non-exempt, Paid $20-$25 per hour depending on experience. Follows an academic calendar with a max of 8 hours per week.
